"So, Miss Mills, we have finally got your test results from the last time we saw you" Dr Hart announced, entering the room and baring witness to his patient sat with her brother.

"Ooo, can I guess? I'm dying?" Regina sarcastically responded, putting her hand up in the air to help play the part.

"Regina, don't be like that" Rex sternly warned as he sighed in exhaustion of her already.

"Like what? I get dragged out here everyday and for what? Them to tell me I'm still dying" Regina questioned, switching her gaze from Dr Hart and Rex with anger in her words.

"Miss Mills, please remain calm. It's best for you if you do" the kind doctor suggested, knowing her reaction is one he sees often. Regina simply looked down, her eyes teared up a little as she could no longer hold it in. "Your cancer is still spreading, even with our treatment. We are not classing it as terminal yet"

"Yet?" Regina cut in, spitting the words out of her mouth, as she sat up quickly. "What do you mean yet? It's obvious, isn't it? I'm dying! There is no help for me, just class it as terminal and give up" she continued, growing even more angry than she previously was.

"Regina, new drugs are being made everyday and we still have some treatments to try with you. We aren't giving up and we all suggest you don't too" Dr Hart softly replied, knowing the girl has been through a lot in her life.

"It's been 6 years and nothing, why are you still trying" Regina asked as she, finally, snapped her head up and revealed to the men her watery eyes.

"Because, Regina, if there is the smallest chance you can survive, we want to take those odds" Rex quickly said as he knew it should be him to speak to her now.

"I don't care anymore, do what you want. I'm going to go wait in the car" Regina simply replied, standing from her chair and grabbing her bag.

"Regina" Rex called out but the door soon closed, cutting his sound off for her.

Regina just leaned against the door, let out a large sigh as she tried forgetting everything. She wiped her watery eyes to relieve the stress she was feeling. The brunette pushed off the wall, just in time to collide with a girl passing by. Both women fell to the floor, each feeling bad for knocking the other.

"I'm so sorry, I wasn't even looking" Regina quickly apologized, sitting up to check the other was ok.

"It was my fault, I was on my phone. Are you ok" the girl kindly asked, rubbing the back of her head to check for a lump.

That's when they locked eyes. Regina was taken back by the beauty of the other woman. She had long, blonde hair that flowed straight down to her lower back. She had green eyes that sparkled in the small ray of sunlight. She was very beautiful and Regina clearly thought so. This girl went by the name of Emma Swan. The blonde giggled a little, noticing Regina was just staring at her.

"What? Oh, I'm ok... Thanks. Are you alright? Did you hit your head" Regina quickly asked, feeling a little embarrassed she was caught staring so much.

"I'm alright, just a little knock. I'm Emma"

  "Regina"

"That is a really pretty name. Latin, right? Princess or Queen, something royal" Emma questioned, trying to remember her boring English teacher telling them.

"Queen, yes. That's impressive, not many people know that" Regina replied with a shy giggle, not sure how to react to this.

"I thought so. Well, Regina, you look stressed, don't suppose you'd like to get coffee and talk" Emma offered, nervously, as she used her hand to refix her hair.

"I could really use a coffee" Regina replied, smiling at the fact the girl just offered.

"I know a good place down the road from here, walking distance"

  "Sounds good"

Emma smiled, surprised as she didn't think she'd get a yes. They both turned to walk away, Emma leading of course. Rex then came out from the Doctors office, noticing his sister with a random girl.

"Regina? What you doing" he asked confused, knowing she was supposed to be at the car by now.

"I'm getting coffee, I'll meet you at home" Regina quickly replied, glancing over her shoulder as she continued to walk away.

"Who's that" Emma curiously asked, knowing the pair look nothing alike.

"My brother" Regina replied with a large sigh and a roll of her eyes to show her exhaustion for him.

"That's a happy response to him" Emma chuckled at the reaction, holding the exit door open for the brunette to leave first.

"He just annoyed me today. He thinks because he's 2 years older, he can control me" Regina sighed, again, as she thought about her day with him.

"How old is he" Emma asked, knowing this is how she will find out the girls age.

"You're smooth. He's 24 which means I'm 22" Regina replied with a giggle, knowing full well what the blonde was up to.

"Same age as me" Emma replied with a chuckle, knowing the brunette looks like she could be older and younger at the same time.

"Did you grow up in this town? I feel I should of met you before" Regina questioned, curious how she'd never seen the blonde woman before.

"I grew up in Boston, moved here a few years ago to get away from my mother" Emma replied with a laugh, acting as if it was nothing.

"I take it you don't have a strong relationship with her" Regina asked, wanting to know as much as she can about this woman.

"No, I haven't since I was a kid to be honest. She had me at a young age and blamed me for ruining her life" Emma replied with a shrug, knowing she is over all of that.

"I'm sorry, my mum and dad died before I could remember them so I don't really know what it's like having parents" Regina softly said, feeling bad for the blonde.

  "I'm so sorry"

  "It's ok, thanks"

"So, what brings you to the hospital and made you so stressed" Emma asked, knowing that's the reason they were together.

"Cancer" Regina replied with a sigh, to her it wasn't a big deal.

"Oh god, I'm sorry I asked so insensitively" Emma said, shocked by herself for asking such a blunt question.

"No, it's fine. I've had years to come to terms with it" Regina replied as she used her hand to dismiss the idea. "What about you, how come you were there"

"Stupid AA meeting" Emma replied with a sigh, knowing it was her first and last time.

"You're an alcoholic" Regina questioned, chuckling a little out of shock from the blonde.

"And druggy. I know, I don't look the type. It's like my hidden talent, no one can tell" Emma replied with a laugh, knowing it's a bigger deal than she lets off.

"You don't look the type, you look too cute" Regina said with a small giggle, glancing across at the blonde beside her.

Emma chuckled as she looked down, hiding her small blush. They turned the corner and walked up the path to the diner. Emma held the door open, causing Regina to smile at her before going in. They found a small booth table, sitting opposite each other and just smiling.

"Have you ever been here" Emma asked, placing her hands in her pocket as she slouched back.

"No, I don't think so. I live more the upper end of town so I'm rarely down this way; it looks nice though" Regina replied with a smile, looking around the place she thought was sweet.

"Hiya, what can I get for you" a perky waitress asked, looking between the pair for an answer.

"Coffee, black please" Emma replied, glancing up at the woman with a slight smile.

"Same please" Regina said with a chuckle, turning her gaze back to Emma. The waitress wrote their order and left. "So, what do you do as a job"

"Deputy sheriff" Emma replied, causing the pair to chuckle at her answer.

"The deputy sheriff is an alcoholic drug addict" Regina questioned, still laughing a little at the answer.

"I know right, the irony" Emma said as she began to laugh more as well. "What about you, Regina"

"Me and my brother inherited my fathers business, Mills trading" Regina replied, knowing it's a huge company but she hates to ever brag.

"Whoa, there big" Emma said with a chuckle, knowing they are world wide known. The waitress then placed both coffees in front of the women, smiling before leaving. Emma took a flask from her pocket, looked both ways and poured the whiskey into the glass. "You want some"

  "I don't drink, well I can't drink"

"Shit, I'm sorry. I should have known"

"No it's fine, it happens all the time" Regina replied with a chuckle, stirring sugar into her coffee.

Both smiled at each other, realising their differences but not minding them in any way.

It's a week later, Regina and Emma had been texting all week and call

ing most nights. They were really starting to like each other, unexpectedly. Tonight Emma had asked to take Regina on a date, she was currently on her way to get her. Regina was applying lipstick in her hallway mirror.

"Reg, are you sure about this? I mean, she's not exactly your type in anyways" Rex questioned from the lounge doorway, leaning against the frame as he watched her.

"I like her, what's the big deal" Regina asked with a sigh, still looking in the mirror to touch up her makeup.

"I'm just worried for you, that's all. I get a weird feeling about this girl" Rex replied, pushing off the wall to walk towards her.

"It will be fine, she's so sweet and funny and so hot. Stop going all big brother on me for once" Regina sighed, rolling her eyes as she used her finger to wipe some lipstick from her face.

"Fine, I'm sorry" Rex said, admitting defeat as he stood behind her in the mirror. He smiled at his sister, causing a confused look from her. "You look very pretty, stop fiddling with ur makeup"

"Thanks, Rex" Regina replied with a smile, turning round to face the taller man. As she hugged him, the door knocked. They both shared an awkward look, knowing neither wanted to be together when the door opened. "I will see you later"

"Yep, I'm going to the lounge. Have fun and be safe" Rex quickly said, walking away so he didn't watch his sister greet her date.

"I will" Regina replied with an eye roll, heading to open the door. As she pulled it open, her breathing caught in her throat. Emma was stood in a black suit with a bow tight done perfectly. Regina wore a long black dress with a slit to her hip bone. The pair just admired each other, seeing how beautiful the other was. "You look amazing, whoa"

"You look gorgeous in that dress" Emma said with a smile, letting her eyes meet the brunette in front. She moved her hand from behind her back to reveal a rose she was holding. "For you"

"Aren't you a gentleman" Regina said with a chuckle, happily taking the rose.

"Always" Emma replied, smirking as she chuckled to herself.

Regina giggled as she stepped out the house, closing the door behind them. They walked to the Uber Emma was previously in, the blonde opening the door for Regina. The pair got in and strapped up, allowing the driver to begin his route. The journey was quiet, both still surprised at the others outfit choice. Emma reached across and held Regina's hand, causing her to smile and blush.

"So, where are we going" Emma asked, knowing the brunette picked the restaurant.

"We're here, have a look" Regina replied, gesturing out the window at the restaurant.

Emma leaned across a little to see the sign, Maritza's. It was the biggest restaurant in town, hard to get into and expensive once in. Even Regina being rich, she struggled to get into a place like Maritza's. Emma looked at Regina shocked, chuckling a little as she did.

"Maritza's? How" Emma asked, unbuckling from her seat and opening the door.

"I know Maritza, we went to school together. She got me a reservation and 50% discount" Regina replied with a smile, knowing this is one of her favourite restaurants in town.

"This is insane, I've never been here before" Emma said with a shocked smile, walking around the car to meet the brunette.

"It's so nice" Regina replied, smiling as she led the way to the entrance. The pair walked in and over to the guy stood by the door, taking reservations. "Hi, table for Regina"

"Miss Mills, welcome back. We have your table for two right through here" the man greeted with a smile, leading the way to the table. The pair followed, Emma admiring the whole place and all its details. He gestured to the table, causing Emma to snap out her thoughts. "Here we are, ladies. A waiter will be here to take your order shortly"

"Whoa, this is incredible" Emma said with a huge smile, never seeing such a place. Regina chuckled as she watched the blonde, the pair taking a seat together. Emma looked across at Regina, noticing her staring once again. "You're staring"

"Fuck" Regina mumbled as she looked away, causing the blonde to laugh at what she heard.

"So, do you come here often then" Emma asked, referring to the mans greeting moments ago.

"I come with a group of friends almost every Saturday" Regina replied with a chuckle, knowing it's like a tradition for them.

"Good evening, madams. May I start you off with a drink" the waiter asked, pausing the conversation for the pair.

"I'll have just water, thank you" Regina replied, holding the drink menu to the man.

"Certainly and for you, madam" he asked, turning his gaze towards the blonde.

"I'll have a scotch on the rocks, thanks" Emma replied as she read off the menu, closing it and holding it to the man.

"Of course, I shall be with you shortly" he said with a smile, politely walking away.

"You don't mind me drink, do you" Emma asked, worried she may offend the woman.

"Of course not. I knew what I was getting myself into when you told me you were an alcoholic" Regina replied with a laugh, sitting up more in her seat.

The pair laughed and talked all through dinner, never an awkward silence between them. They were sharing a chocolate cake as Emma told a story from her childhood, both laughing together.

"It was crazy. One minute I was playing soccer, the next I was caught in the net while hanging upside down" Emma finished, causing a bigger laughter from the brunette.

"Oh my god, that must have been one slippery field" Regina said with a laugh, placing her fork into her mouth.

"Yeah but we still won so that's the good part" Emma added, taking another bit of the cake from her fork.

"This chocolate cake is amazing but I'm so full" Regina said with a sigh, placing her fork next to the almost finished dessert.

"Me too" Emma added, relaxing back in her chair with a sigh.

"Should we get the bill and walk home, it's not that far from mine" Regina asked, sitting up more as she fixed her head with her hand.

"Yeah, sounds like a good plan" Emma replied, smiling as she watched the brunette.

"Excuse me" Regina quickly said to the waiter walking by, causing him to stop for them. "Hi, can we get the bill please"

  "Of course"

The man left for about a minute before returning with the bill, Regina gave him her card so she could pay instead of Emma. Once payed for, the pair stood up to leave. Emma held her hand towards the brunette, happily being taken. They walked out of the restaurant and onto the street, seeing it was lit by the lights all around.

"Thank you for dinner, it was so nice" Emma said with a smile, glancing across at the girl walking beside her.

"It's my pleasure, thank you for asking me" Regina replied, giggling and smiling as she looked ahead of her.

They walked together in a comfortable quiet, both knowing there was no need to talk. It wasn't a far walk to Regina's house, 20 minutes tops. They arrived soon enough, both knowing the date was coming to an end.
